I like to say that I learned how to crochet thanks to my grandma Ursula, which is true, but just not the way you imagine it happened! While I was growing up, my grandma tried to teach me how to crochet. I would spend entire afternoons sitting next to her trying to figure out what she was doing with the hook and yarn. The problem was that everything would happen so fast that I could barely understand what was going on. And even if she couldn’t see very well, that didn’t slow her down one bit! I was determined to learn, it’s just that I desperately needed a “pause” button and my grandma didn’t seem to come with one.
So I decided to take a different approach. Whenever I went back home, I would look for videos on how to crochet and then show my grandma what I had made (she never knew I cheated, but I’m sure she would forgive me). For me, having videos I could pause, rewind, slow down, really helped speed up my learning curve. In a way, I did learn thanks to her! She inspired my curiosity about crochet, which later on became a passion. And for that, I will be forever grateful.
For the few of us that need a helping hand, I put together a compilation with the most useful courses I could find. I hope these can serve as guides on your crochet journey and inspire your curiosity!
